AfterShip makes its automated Shipping API, Postmen, Free to Support E-Commerce Shipping Needs

According to co-founder Andrew Chan, the firm chose to make the Postmen API, which was previously available as a SaaS subscription for corporations, free in response to the significant increase in online purchasing caused by the COVID-19 outbreak. Postmen’s users are mostly from the United States, accounting for over 60% of the total. 

Since February, AfterShip has experienced an 85 percent growth in shipping volume, which contrasts sharply with past years, when volume decreased after the Christmas shopping season finished, according to Chan. Many merchants have also had to transfer most or all of their activities online, with many brick-and-mortar establishments fast adapting to e-commerce when global movement limitations were implemented. 

Postmen work with 60 carriers, including the US Postal Service, DHL, FedEx, and UPS, and interacts with a retailer’s current shipping infrastructure. The API is simple for developers to incorporate into a retailer’s shipping operation and links with businesses’ current shipping accounts, allowing them to continue using discounted courier rates they’ve negotiated. 

Developers may use the API to link their shipping process with any courier Postmen provides, cutting integration time from months to two weeks for all couriers offered by Postmen. Customers may use AfterShip’s interface with USPS to get a cheaper USPS shipping rate, removing the need to haggle with the courier.
