I’m so happy you guys are back. I have a very special guest with me today. Her name is Dawnna Goller and she’s my fellow email marketing nerd. Say hi, Dawnna.
Dawnna: 1:17
Hello.
Vira: 1:18
It’s not the official introduction you were waiting for, right?
Dawnna: 1:23
Email marketing nerd. I love it. I’m here for it.
Vira: 1:25
Yep. I mean, that’s who we are, right?
Dawnna: 1:27
It’s true story.
Vira: 1:29
That’s who we are. Yeah, we work with Dawnna together at Flowium. She’s an email marketing genius. I mean, she’s a senior email marketer here and she knows all things email rector. So we will ask her a gazillion questions. Today we will be discussing some cute ideas for your June campaign calendars. But before we go there, Dawnna, I wanted to do a quick Q and A with you. Like a blitz Q and A with you. Just like for people to get to know you better. And honestly, I’m curious to hear your answers as well.
Dawnna: 2:00
Okay, awesome.
Vira: 2:01
Okay, cool. So, Dawnna, texting or calling?
Dawnna: 2:05
Ooh, texting. I think texting. Yeah, calling feels kind of weird now.
Vira: 2:11
We’re that generation. We’re the texting generation. Cool. Favorite city in the US In US Besides the one you live in.
Dawnna: 2:19
Oh, that’s a good question. So I don’t technically live in Chicago, so I’m going to give Chicago the shack out there. I live near it, but I don’t live in it, so it counts.
Vira: 2:31
We’re going to. We’re going to take it. We’re going to take it. Okay. Favorite season?
Dawnna: 2:35
Ooh, fall.
Vira: 2:38
I was hoping you were going to set. You’re going to say it’s summer. I was hoping you’re going to say summer just because we will be discussing summer today. But, yeah, I love fall, too.
Dawnna: 2:46
You can edit that.
Vira: 2:47
That’s fine. That’s fine.
Dawnna: 2:49
Fall is just. Fall here is a little strange, so maybe it is. It should be, like, summer and fall, because fall here is still, like, 70 degrees. It takes a long time to get cold, so.
Vira: 3:01
I love it. Okay, cool. Pool or beach?
Dawnna: 3:05
Ooh, beach. Gotta be in the sand. Gotta hear it. Hear the waves. Yep.
Vira: 3:10
Yep. Chocolate milkshake or vanilla milkshake?
Dawnna: 3:13
Oh, chocolate. Chocolate all day.
Vira: 3:16
Yay. I think your. Your husband. Your now husband would pick a different option, right? Vanilla milkshake guy. And I remember that because when we’ve met together, we went into this, like, really cute beer place. Like a craft beer place. Really awesome. And we came there, and guess what? Dawnna’s husband ordered himself a big and beautiful milkshake. Honestly, I have so much respect to this guy. Like, he just, like, does his thing.
Dawnna: 3:46
Before you guys got there. He was like, I’m going to get a milkshake, and they’re going to laugh. Then he ordered the. And y’ all laughed.
Vira: 3:54
And we sure did. Awesome. Awesome. And the last one, if there was, like, a theme song playing every time you entered into the room, what would it be? Your, like, power song or, like, your theme song?
Dawnna: 4:09
I think. Everybody dance now.
Vira: 4:13
That’s a good one. Everybody dance Now. This one. Okay. That’s a good one. That’s a good one. Now I can stop playing it in my head. Dawnna.
Dawnna: 4:23
High energy. Just like, a lot of, like.
Vira: 4:26
Just like you.
Dawnna: 4:27
Joy. I try to be.
Vira: 4:30
That’s a good one. That’s a good one. That’s an awesome one.
Dawnna: 4:33
Great questions.
Vira: 4:35
I know. I know. Very intellectual, too. Not.
Dawnna: 4:40
Hey, I think that you can. You can pick some things out of those questions. I think you can figure out people pretty well based on.
Vira: 4:47
I think so, too. I think so, too. So, Dawnna, let’s talk summer. All right, Summer. Let’s talk summer campaigns. Summer ideas for marketing. By the way, how did you spend your, like, summers growing up? Did you, like, go usually go to the camp, or did you spend some time with your family? What were summers like for you?
Dawnna: 5:07
I was definitely an outdoor kid. I was on my bike from sun up till sundown. Lights, you know, street lights on. I was that kid that. You know, my mom definitely said, like, you have to be home when the street lights were on. And I would gauge, like, when I had to go back inside off of that, like, I would actually try to see which one was closest to our place. And I’d be like, okay, that’s the one that Actually matters. So, yeah, I was definitely outside riding bikes, skating, going to the beach, going on road trips. Just love to be outside. For sure. That was.
Vira: 5:40
That was me too. Yeah, I love this memories of, like, playing in the yard until, like, my mom would call me and my friends or my, like, siblings for dinner and. Oh, gosh, these memories are the best. Honestly, I love summer as an adult, too. It’s a great time to socialize with friends, with good food and, like, the patio furniture that I need to buy. Still, I’ve never owned a patio furniture in my life, believe it or not. And now we moved into suburb, and apparently that’s a thing everyone’s going crazy for. Like, good patio furniture and those, like, fire pits and everything. I still have, like, a lot of things to learn about this suburban life.
Dawnna: 6:21
Well, like, you talk about, you know, being a kid and being like, I want to go ride bikes or go for a hike or, you know, go physically do things. The equivalent to that as an adult is I want to go sit in my patio, on my patio furniture, on my patio, drinking something. Something, you know, fresh and light and, you know, refreshing with the fire pit, you know, under the twinkly lights.
Vira: 6:43
Exactly. Yes. So it is definitely bring all of the lights. Bring all of the lights, please. But I like that some brands are actually trying to bring that sense of, like, nostalgia and like, to try to connect on, like, a different emotional level with their customers in their emails. Like, a lot of. A lot of brands are actually send those, like, nostalgic summer emails. They are sometimes doing, like, a lot of summer giveaways and prizes. They maybe, like, ask participants to share their fun childhood memories of summer vacations. I love that kind of stuff. And honestly, I think you can do so much with email in, like, summer. Just, like, when we think of summer, we think of, like, sun, beach, water, holidays. Honestly, so many things you can talk about in summer. I’m excited. I’m excited for this season. Yeah. Yeah. So, Dawnna, what are the monthly observances? Am I pronouncing this word correctly?
Dawnna: 7:38
Observances? Yeah, absolutely. I would say monthly holidays, too. Like, holiday. Like, I feel like there’s national ones, there are ones that are a little bit more localized to a certain area, so it kind of just depends. But there’s definitely some really fun ones that businesses can use to just get their audience excited and just get people excited for summer, like you said. And they can do anything from planning a promotion to tying in these. These monthly holidays, if you will, with blog posts, sales discounts, social media, all that kind of stuff. So, yeah, for June, we actually have quite a few. Of course, we have, like, you know, LGBT Pride Month is a big one.
Vira: 8:18
That’s a big one.
Dawnna: 8:18
You see that everywhere you go. You see it from, you know, cookies all the way up to clothes. And then you have Wellness Month. Rebuild you’d Life Month. I personally like this one. It’s National Rose, as in the Flower Rose Month.
Vira: 8:31
Yeah.
Dawnna: 8:32
But to make it kind of fun and to make it summer themed, you can definitely kind of play around with it and kind of make it Rose Month. So it’s like.
Vira: 8:39
And actually do that. Yeah, yeah.
Dawnna: 8:42
Take the national, you know, month and make it into something that’s relevant for your business.
Vira: 8:46
But this actually, Dawnna, in June, I think June 11th is technically national Rose Day, so, like the drink. So, yeah, you can. You can do a lot with this holiday.
Dawnna: 8:59
Rose Month.
Vira: 9:00
Amara, it should be National Amara Day. We have colleague Amara, who actually was a guest in our podcast, so if you haven’t listened to her, to her podcast, go back and listen to it. But she loves rose. So, yeah, it should be National Day of Amara International. Let’s do it.
Dawnna: 9:17
International International Day of Amara. People will be like, who is she now? You have to look her up. Do it.
Vira: 9:24
Yes, do it. Look her up.
Dawnna: 9:26
Yeah. And then, of course, you have, like, you know, national camping, because, of course, June is the time where people are getting out there, the weather’s starting to warm up. And then because of that, you also have Fireworks Safety Month and National Iced Tea Month, which again, goes back to having a nice, cool, refreshing drink as you’re sitting outside taking in the sun. If you live in certain parts of the world, you only get sun certain times of the year, so you definitely want to take it in.
Vira: 10:18
Yeah, yeah. I’m going to take an advantage of National Iced Tea Months, that’s for sure.
Dawnna: 10:23
Yeah.
Vira: 10:23
Cool, cool, cool, cool. Let’s see what other, like, holidays we have this. This month. Well, June 1st is the national say Something Nice Day. On June 1st, be kind to everyone you meet. Say something nice, but also be kind your email subscribers and do something nice for them. This day’s goal is basically to encourage people to spray cheer, to spread good vibes, and maybe to talk on, like, positive. To talk about positive stuff and to focus on positive stuff. So some ideas for campaigns. Well, first of all, you can maybe do a promotion. Honestly, I feel like in this day of age, any day can be used for promotion, and that’s what brands are doing. But also, you can just, like, Be nice, be a nice person. And maybe you can even do. I know that some brands are using this like handwritten notes that they are sending to their VIP customers just because I think it’s a beautiful idea. It makes you stand out, it makes you connect with the customer and it definitely makes you as a brand memorable, you know, so maybe that’s something you can do. But also. Yeah, maybe just like say something nice in the email. Just do the campaign, like no discount, no promotion, nothing. Just say something nice and cheerful and uplifting. We need those kind of messages in our inboxes.
Dawnna: 11:41
Absolutely. Yeah, absolutely. Even something as simple as just like, you know, you look good today. Yeah, I mean that.
Vira: 11:48
I think that kind of one of 30,000 subscribers.
Dawnna: 11:53
I think even just something like that. Yeah. Something that feels personal in a way, but also that is just like a fun, cheery kind of message from a company, like from a business to you directly. It feels special when it’s like this is specially for you. So that’s for sure.
Vira: 12:10
Yep.
Dawnna: 12:10
So another good one we have on June 3rd is National Donut Day. And so I feel like that’s pretty self explanatory. I feel like if you donut.
Vira: 12:21
Yes.
Dawnna: 12:22
Yeah, love. Or like donuts, that’s the day for you. And I think another kind of fun way to incorporate that into emails is you can kind of play around with that word in the subject line in the actual email. An example would be you donuts want to miss this sale.
Vira: 12:37
Oh, that’s so good. That’s like a dead joke, you know, Dead joke in the emails. Right there. Love those. I love those.
Dawnna: 12:47
And that could. That doesn’t have to connect to someone selling donuts. That could be anyone.
Vira: 12:51
Yeah.
Dawnna: 12:52
But kind of connecting it back to donut day, you can also include like maybe a Dunkin Donut E gift card or you know, I’ve seen influencers do that where they will. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen it, Vira. They will post like their Starbucks kind of reward card thing on their Instagram or whatever and they’ll say like the first hundred people can get a gift, you know, get a free drink or something like that. Yeah, those usually go pretty fast. Oh yeah, they go pretty fast. I don’t know how well that would work in an email. I doubt that would work super well in an email, but you can definitely.
Vira: 13:24
So basically how it works. So basically you just like load money on your card and then you share your card number, like everyone and it’s like first come, first serve kind of thing.
Dawnna: 13:35
Yeah, it’s like they’ll do, like, a day of. That kind of goes back to your. Say something nice day and spreading cheer.
Vira: 13:40
It’s like days of free coffee on us. Kind of.
Dawnna: 13:43
Coffee on us. Yeah. And then it’s a barcode or it’s a QR code, and they’re just like, hey, we’re gonna either reload it one time for the whole day or we’re gonna continually reload it throughout the day. You know, feel free. Please, everybody take one. Yeah, I love it.
Vira: 13:57
I love it.
Dawnna: 13:58
That kind of thing.
Vira: 13:59
Yeah. Gosh.
Dawnna: 13:59
Super sweet.
Vira: 14:00
With our clients. Maybe that’s something we can experiment with.
Dawnna: 14:04
I know we talked about, like, that there’s like, that you can give someone a cup of coffee. Like, there’s an app for that. I know we had briefly talked about that. I think we need to dive back into that. I think that needs to come back full circle.
Vira: 14:18
There’s an app for. Yeah, I think we did discuss something like that. Interesting. Interesting. No, I love the National Donut Day. And we don’t have. Actually, I don’t think we have Dunkin Donuts in Canada. I don’t think we do. No.
Dawnna: 14:32
We have Starbucks, right?
Vira: 14:33
Oh, yeah, of course. But I mean, for the donuts, we have our own version. It’s not. It’s not a Dunkin Donut version, but we have our own donut place. It’s called Tim Hortons. It’s like a national. Like a big chain, but they do sell. Not just, like, donuts and coffee, even though it’s like, whatever it originally was, but they do have some, like, delicious sandwiches and, like, soups. Like, everything. Like, good Canadian. Good quality Canadian food. Yeah.
Dawnna: 15:00
You know what’s funny about that? We actually got one of those. I’m originally from Ohio, and we got a Tim Hortons. They opened up and I was like, what is this? And someone told me it was. It was a Canadian brand, and I did not connect that until you just brought it up again. That’s hilarious.
Vira: 15:15
Yeah. Yeah. I think they usually. They do have, like, a few Tim Hortons is, like, closer to Canadian borders. Just because every Canadian traveler. Travel, traveler. Need their titties, like, in the morning. Yeah. We call it timmies. We call it Timmies. And, like. And we have this little. I don’t know if it’s a Canadian thing or do you guys have it as well? We have this, like, teeny tiny donuts they call Timbits. And they’re like, literally. I know they’re teeny tiny. They’re like a Little, little circles, almost like this. Mini donuts, basically. And when the COVID started first and they had this like six feet rule or whatever. Was it six feet? I think it was six feet. Yeah. So they. They had. They had this like, schemes. It was not like 6ft, but like 20 Timbits apart. So like state, state. 20 Timmies apart. That’s how we do things in Canada. Yeah. We measure everything in, like, mini donuts.
Dawnna: 16:10
In mini donuts. The only thing I can think of that’s similar to that would be donut holes, which is like the whole part of the donut. They kind of create a donut from that, which. Yeah, it just doesn’t have a hole in it. It’s just a little ball. It’s basically a donut ball, but they call it donut balls.
Vira: 16:25
That’s what Tim. Tim Hortons, like, Timbits are. They are like little tongue. Yeah, so that’s exactly what it is. We have like gazillion different, like, variations of them. And actually Justin Bieber, like, a few months ago, he launched his own, like, the collection of donuts. And they, like, originally they call they. Their. Their name is like, Tim Bits, but this they called Tim Bips. Like, Tim Bips. Yeah. It’s like. It’s like. It’s the entire thing. Everyone was like, going crazy. Like, Justin Bieber’s donuts here in Canada.
Dawnna: 17:03
I had no idea about that. That’s amazing. I laugh because. Because you’re like, well, here’s the celebrity. And he launched his own thing. And I just. It’s funny to me. So that’s.
Vira: 17:13
No, he did, he did. He did have his own, like, line of donuts, like four different flavors. And you could also, like, buy Tim Hortons hats with, like, Justin Bieber’s name on it. And it was like, impossible to get because that collection was very limited and you basically couldn’t get them anywhere. So people were like, selling them on ebay for hundreds of dollars, even though it’s like, oh, my goodness,$5. Had. Yeah. So let’s go back to the holidays. I can talk about donuts all day. Honestly, I can have separate segment on our podcast about it. But let’s go back to our fun holidays. Yeah.
Dawnna: 17:51
I feel like that’s just a reflection of how important National Donut Day is. Yep.
Vira: 17:56
Apparently for Canadians for sure.
Dawnna: 17:59
That’s hilarious.
Vira: 18:00
Yeah, the June 8th one actually made me. Made me smile. It’s called the Oopsy Daisy Day. That’s so random. And it’s actually a National Oopsie Daisy Day. It’s celebrated on June 8th every year, and it’s encouraging you to allow positivity into your life. So it’s, in a way, it’s similar to like a do something nice day. It also all about like, increasing those, like, good vibes and stuff like that. But basically, apparently this day originated in like mid 19th century where this like, oopsie Daisy was used as an exclamation when like, like to express encouragement to like, a child who has fallen or like, or something. So they’re like oopsie Daisy. So yeah, that’s. That’s funny. But today it’s more. It’s like a day where you can spread some positive vibes and it’s like a good reminder that even if you fall, you can still carry on with positive attitude and like, overcome challenges and stuff.
Dawnna: 19:03
Yeah.
Vira: 19:03
So, yeah, so maybe, maybe that’s a good day to make one of those, you know, charitable campaigns. Maybe you can make a donation to a food pantry or be like your local charity of your choice. I sometimes do it with my clients when say like 50% of all of the proceeds generated from this campaign will go to like, ABC charity or whatever. So we do it all the time. And surprisingly, those campaigns, they do generate like, a lot of money. If you combine this, like a cost campaign with some sort of like, discount, they perform even better. So maybe that’s something you can do. But you can also make a bunch of educational content. You can maybe talk about increasing or like lowering depression or like stress management or maybe like a mental health or something like that. We always try to create like three types of contents. They’re the biggest. So it’s like educational, inspirational, or entertaining. If your content doesn’t fit in one of those boxes, you’re probably doing something wrong. So it should be either like fun or like educational or inspirational. Yeah. So here you go. And I’m going to quickly talk about the June 10th one, because I didn’t even know it existed this holiday, but apparently that’s a thing. So June 10th is actually the National Iced Tea Day. And yeah, apparently that’s a big thing, especially in the States, especially in like the Southern part of America. Right. It’s like a traditional drink or something. I’m not a big iced tea day or like iced tea fan, but I have a client who’s actually selling all kinds of iced teas, like, and. And their product is amazing. So we will be celebrating this holiday and they will actually be launching flavor around June 10th. So that’s what we will focus on. But also you can maybe use this day to talk about different like mocktail recipes. So like non alcoholic tea cocktails, maybe you can do some sort of like promotion around it or as always you can go with like an educational content. For example, I found this article online that is called eight things only Southerners know about Tea. So apparently when you order tea in like Southern restaurants in the states, it means that they will bring you the sweet tea. Because when you order tea they will bring you like an ice sweet tea. It’s like a traditional thing or something. So that’s interesting. And you can maybe like come up with like a different fun facts about tea or like share your family recipe if that’s a thing. Because I think it’s basically like a three ingredients drink. So what recipe can there be? I don’t know. But if you are in the tea business or if that’s something that you want to talk about, definitely create something for June tense.
Dawnna: 21:54
Yeah. And I think even, you know, if you’re in a beverage business, you can even kind of mention that like, hey, did you know this? This is a cool fact and then still tie it in with the beverage that you’re selling, you know, and make it all connect, make it a fun kind of did, you know, educational like you said. All right, so the big one that everyone knows, of course is June 19, which is Father’s Day. Father’s Day. It’s a big one for sure. So I think a lot of companies, of course there’s a lot of promotions around Father’s Day, a lot of selling around Father’s Day, which is great. But another option to just kind of be a little different is if you get a little personal, honestly, and just share a message or an incredible story of, you know, a true story of a father and fatherly love and just kind of connect with your subscribers, you can show up a photo. A great thing for a lot of businesses is if you use a lot of your, your colleagues like in your promotions where it’s like, hey, this girl works in social media and this guy over here, he is our marketing director. And you know people, your customers are really used to seeing these people’s faces over and over again.
Vira: 23:02
Those kind of emails, yeah.
Dawnna: 23:04
Those are just so much fun because when you get an email from, you know, Tom and his cat Spot, I don’t know if that’s a dog name. Tom and his cat Paws. It’s so much fun to see Tom and his cat Paws, you know, living their life. But then if you get an email from Tom saying, hey, It’s Father’s Day and did you know, you know, me and my kids have this great story. It’s like that connects you to the brand in a way that’s just so different and very unique for Father’s Day.
Vira: 23:31
Yeah, yeah, totally agree.
Dawnna: 23:33
And of course you could absolutely still send promotions. Another great thing to do is gift guides. You can send those out in advance for dad, for fathers out there. Because there’s always going to be that question of what should we give him? So you can definitely do some gift guides beforehand, special offers beforehand, even like a sneak peek, like something that’s like, hey, coming up in the next week, we’re going to be celebrating, so get ready for this email that’s going to drop. It’s going to have some great deals in it for Father’s Day as well as E gift cards. That’s also a really good one for last minute. You can send that out. That’s. Yeah, I feel like that struck a chord with you, Vira.
Vira: 24:14
I mean, that’s how I shop for like Christmas Mother’s Day. It’s like, yeah, I’m the guest station shopper, you know, Christmas Day, gas station shopper. That’s me.
Dawnna: 24:23
Yeah, Definitely done that countdown of like, if I send it today in the mail, how many days? So that’s actually what some brands are doing.
Vira: 24:32
That’s what I love when brands is sending the email saying, like, hey, if you order this today, we will deliver it to you in times for Father’s Days. So like today is your last chance to order kind of thing. I love those emails.
Dawnna: 24:45
Yeah, those are like, really, really important. And I think a lot of companies think to do that around the holidays, which is fantastic. Like, you know, Christmas and all of those holidays where you’re, you’re sending to multiple people. But I think throughout the year, it’s also great to just be like, hey, here’s this holiday coming up for this special someone in your life. Like, this is the last chance to get this if you order today through the mail.
Vira: 25:06
So yeah, that’s a good one. That’s a good one. And it’s actually funny because usually Father’s Day, I think it’s like a second or third Sunday of the, of the month or something. So it’s not like it’s like not the same day, but like around June 20th and my mom’s Day is actually on. My mom’s birthday is actually on June 21st. So my dad almost always takes the spotlight out of her because it’s a Father’s Day and He’s very proud of the day for some reason. So they are, like, sharing the holiday, my mom and my dad.
Dawnna: 25:42
The funny thing about that is my mother’s birthday is around Mother’s Day, and this year I got a little bit of a break because Mother’s Day was so early. It was the. Like, the what, the second weekend, the first weekend in May instead of. It’s usually around the second, and her birthday’s the third, so. So it’s. It’s definitely nice to have that reminder of when the national holiday is coming up, because it does change.
Vira: 26:05
That’s a good one. That’s a good one. Yeah, yeah. Sometimes it’s super early, and that’s why I’m very. I’m very happy about those, like, emails that, like, remind me about the holiday that is coming. Yeah, I always appreciate them a lot.
Dawnna: 26:20
Yes, for sure.
Vira: 26:20
Cool, cool, cool, cool. And I also like that, like, a lot of brands are taking that long, like, funny, witty angle. Was there, like, Father’s Day emails? You know, it’s like, the humor is what I appreciate a lot.
Dawnna: 26:34
Yeah. And, like, those stories, of course, they can be very heartwarming. They can be very loving, or it can be something silly, you know, like, you can take it any direction that you want to for connecting with your subscribers. It could be like, oh, wow, we did this fun thing with dad one time. Or let me tell you. Let me tell you a dad joke. Oh, that’s a good one. That’s a good one.
Vira: 26:52
Jokes.
Dawnna: 26:53
Yes.
Vira: 26:53
Oh, my goodness. We should, like, totally do the email with all of the best dad jokes for us. Yes.
Dawnna: 27:01
Like.
Vira: 27:05
For sure. Yeah. Or like, can you imagine, like, different dads from the office? Like, dads who work in the company tell their favorite, like, a dad joke. Oh, that’s so cute. That’s, like, so personal. And I feel like that email would get a lot of opens just because everyone loves a good dead joke.
Dawnna: 27:24
Yeah. Like, and you could even connect that to social media. Like, in the email, you can have that be the main, like, kind of focus and have your subscribers click over. And then in Instagram, it could be a reel of, like, you said, all the dads in the office. Like, here’s my favorite one. Here’s my. Because you. You gotta see him say it. You know, you gotta get the expression.
Vira: 27:44
Oh, I’m totally doing for one of my brands. I’m gonna change their strategy for June.
Dawnna: 27:52
You’re like, about face. We’ve immediately changed.
Vira: 27:56
Yeah.
Dawnna: 27:57
I love it. It’s great.
Vira: 27:58
Obviously, if you can. If that’s like the tone that your brand or if that’s like your voice of the brand. Right. If it’s like appropriate. Because we do have some like luxurious brands whose tone is like more refined. So for those it probably like wouldn’t work. But one of my clients, they are actually selling like car shocks and they are, they are like entire brand voice is very like fun and witty yet like genuine. I think that would work perfectly for them. So maybe that’s something we’re gonna do. Well, thank you, Dawnna.
Dawnna: 28:29
You’re welcome. I mean, I just love a dad joke.
Vira: 28:33
Husband nails like this. He’s amazing with dad jokes even though you guys don’t have kids. But he, he’ll. I remember like when we were driving together, I forgot what was it. But he had like an awesome dad joke. Yes. Anyways, let’s move to June 21 because June 21 is a national selfie day. And it’s a big one. It’s a big one in the industry, like user generated content in generally, it’s like a very big deal. It’s like invaluable to brands that want to connect and engage with consumers in a very authentic way. But here’s the fun fact about selfies that I didn’t realize. Apparently people in Spain take the most selfies with an average of, of 728 selfies per year. That’s more like two selfies per day. So those like Spaniards guys, they love their selfies apparently. And Italy actually comes in second. Yeah.
Dawnna: 29:34
I wonder if that’s because of the views, you know, are we counting selfies? Like if you’re standing in front of some gorgeous structure that’s, you know, however many years, hundreds of years old and you’re taking.
Vira: 29:43
A reason. I think they’re just like beautiful people. Like those Spanish and Italians. They are beautiful people. I would take a picture of myself. I can’t say if I look like those, like those people. I think it’s a thing. It’s a look. Yeah. And apparently another fun fact that apparently men in UK and the Netherlands are taking more selfies than women. That’s something that I like didn’t expect, honestly. Yeah, Yeah.
Dawnna: 30:14
I have no rationale for that. That is a shock to me as well.
Vira: 30:17
Well, yeah, that, that was an interesting one to see too. But yeah, but actually like brands are using selfies a lot in their marketing and you can totally do some sort of like email marketing campaign around like selfies and stuff. I really like this campaign from Lush Cosmetics. Few days ago they had this hashtag national Face mask day. But apparently it’s more like an Instagram face mask day, you know, like an Instagram mask or like Instagra filter day. But they took another angle and they basically asked their customers to post pictures of them wearing those like face masks, those like cosmetic face masks, you know, like the creams that you put on your face and stuff and take a selfie in the masks and then you could, you could get like a ton of different like freebies and you could enter to win like a bigger price and stuff like that. And like thousands of women and men around the countries, they like posted their pictures with the product, like wearing that like funny blue and green and yellow masks on their face. And like that’s, that’s powerful because that’s like a real, that’s your way of connecting in a very like authentic way with your customers. Like people they do believe. It’s like kinda take it from me cart, it’s like you, you would rather believe the consumer who are using the brand versus the brand. And that’s like, that’s, that’s what I do all the time anyways.
Dawnna: 31:53
Yeah, yeah. And it’s awesome too. Like you said, like it’s, it’s showing customers actually using the products and it’s a fun, it’s definitely a fun image to see someone in a bright green mask or a bright blue mask or you know, some kind of scrub. But you know, at the end of the day, once that’s washed off, they’re, they’re a great review for you. There’s someone who’s like, yeah, I love this thing. It was great. It was a fun thing to be a part of, of, you know, add that hashtag and chance to win something.
Vira: 32:20
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So we always try to display those customer reviews and user generated content in our emails. In fact, it’s like a part of our strategy for each and every email marketing life cycle that we create for our customers. Usually it comes as email number two for the welcome series. We often use it and it’s called like social proof. You want to connect with those customers and you want to cleverly play that take it from them card. You know, I mean so like one of my brands that I work with every week we are doing this campaign that is called she said what About Us. So basically, basically that’s like a company and they are selling different like serums for brows and eyelashes for like the hair growth and stuff. And we do have a lot of amazing selfies of like with before and afters and those. Oh my Goodness. They work like a charm. This campaigns. They constantly have the highest conversion rates out of all of the campaigns. Just because. Because. Yeah. Again, you cleverly play that take it from them card instead of. Instead of trying to push those, like, perfectly edited professional pictures. You know, I would probably believe more like, in real reviews and, like, from real people than from the brand.
Dawnna: 33:39
Yeah, and that’s awesome, too. She said, what about us? I love that. It sounds a lot like, you know, when you’re working in an office, in the cooler talk, the water cooler talk, where everybody’s standing around the water cooler. And it’s like, in this day and age, a lot of people don’t even work in offices. Quite a few do, but a lot of us are remote now. And so having something that is being sent out to someone directly to their email to their inbox, that’s like so and so said this about that. It’s like, it makes it very personal. It makes it fun. Like, I love to look at reviews. When I’m buying a product, I have to look at reviews. If I don’t see reviews, I’m kind of like, what’s going on? And so having that, like, be a direct thing that comes. I can definitely see how the engagement would be through the roof for that.
Vira: 34:22
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
Dawnna: 34:23
Yeah. That’s super cool. All right. And then June 23rd is National Pink Day.
Vira: 34:32
I love those random holidays.
Dawnna: 34:35
This is one of those ones that you could do so much with, though, because it’s pink and it’s just. It’s the color, but you can. Same thing with the rose versus rose. You can play it up. You can have so much fun with it. When I think National Pink Day, I think of Legally Blonde and I think of Elle woods, to quote Elwood.
Vira: 34:52
I love this one.
Dawnna: 34:54
Whoever said orange is the new pink is seriously disturbed. I was younger than yes, but still, I also think of mean girls when I think of pink. On Wednesdays, we wear pink is another good one. So, yeah, examples would be, you know, wear something pink. Promote pink products. Products, definitely. If you want to do something that’s more of a fundraiser or something for a cause, of course you can focus on breast cancer awareness, which is, of course, their ribbon.
Vira: 35:25
That’s what a lot of brands are doing.
Dawnna: 35:27
So, I mean, you could have a lot of fun with National Pink Day, whether it’s something connected to breast cancer awareness, whether it’s something about, like, if you wear a certain pink thing, you know, we’ll send you this. Or, you know, there’s a lot of different Things that you can do. It’s pretty open for that. That particular day.
Vira: 35:43
Yeah, that’s a good one. That’s a good one. And I. And I do love when brands are using a good cause to promote their products, but also to support a cause. And this stand up for pink cause, it’s like. It’s a really good one. Yeah. Yeah. Cool. Okay. And the last one that we will Discuss Today is June 24th. That is the national take your dog to work day. And that’s apparently the thing. And we will be celebrating this holiday with one of my brands that I work with. So the brand that I will be talking about is they’re selling, like, organic supplement supplements for dogs. And they do have three office dogs. Well, basically it’s like the dogs of the people who work there, but those, like, puppies, they’re, like, constantly hanging out there in the office. That’s why I love my Wednesdays, because I get to have the call with their team, and I can always see those, like, three puppies hanging out in the background. They are the best. But the idea that we had with our. With the client is that on that take your dog to office day, we’re gonna do an email with office dogs as the office characters. Like the office characters, the TV show Office, you know, like, from Michael to Dwight and like, newcomers like Aaron and Babe. So it’s basically. That wasn’t my idea. That was actually the client’s idea. But that’s why I love our cl. They always have, like, so many good ideas. And that’s like, one of those companies where we need to work very closely with the. With their team. So they will need to help us to figure out who’s the Michael Scott and who’s the Dwight, you know? Yeah, so that’s. That’s a. That’s a good one. That’s a good one. And yeah, if you have any, like, office paths, maybe that’s a good way to. To, like, connect with your customers. Because everyone loves dogs, right? Everyone loves puppies. So maybe like, send the pictures of your office dogs or maybe just do some sort of, like, a promotion, whatever. Just like, be cute for June 24, because it’s a national take your dog to work day. I love it.
Dawnna: 37:56
I love that idea. And I want to see it.
Vira: 37:59
Oh, gosh. Just like, subscribe. Subscribe to our newsletter. Better.
Dawnna: 38:04
And that’s how you get a subscriber right there.
Vira: 38:06
And that’s how you get a subscriber. Yeah, probably I’m not a qualified lead because you have, like.
Dawnna: 38:14
Two Cats? Yeah, no, I. I am a very strong dog person. I love dogs. And these two cats have been my restoring faith in cats because I had some bad cat experiences when I was younger.
Vira: 38:27
Bad cat experience.
Dawnna: 38:29
They just were so hyper, you know, and close and the whole thing. So. But with these two, they’re very sweet. They’re very. They have their claws, of course, but they are not, like, wanting to attack all the time. You know, they know when it’s time to play and they know when it’s time to nap, and they’re very sweet and they love to cuddle and so, yeah, it’s. It’s. It’s a good time.
Vira: 38:51
I like how you’re saying they don’t want to attack you all the time. It’s like, that makes it better, right?
Dawnna: 38:58
Well, they want to play, of course. You know, like, every. I feel like every animal is like, okay, it’s playtime at a certain time. But I feel like when I was younger, I was always around kittens probably that were like, it’s always playtime. Yes. There is no end play time. It is from literally like 3 in the morning till 6pm every day. Yes. And thankfully, these two are not like that. They’re very sweet and they sleep a lot, so that’s great.
Vira: 39:31
So once you get yourself a dog, then subscribe to our newsletter, because it’s awesome.
Dawnna: 39:36
Then I will bring him to my computer. Talk to work day.
Vira: 39:43
Yeah, literally. Where would I take my kids when I have them? Like, take your kid to. To work day. You know those. Like, take your son to work. Take your daughter to work. Okay, come. Come to my desk in my living room where we hang out anyways. All the time.
Dawnna: 39:58
I feel like what you have to do. Yeah, you have to put them in the car in the morning. You have to, like, make breakfast for them, pack their lunch, put them in the car, drive around the block, come back and just come back, walk over to your desk.
Vira: 40:13
And make them hang out on all of the zoom calls with you, right?
Dawnna: 40:16
Yes, yes. Have them pull up a chair and then, you know, be like, okay, it’s time to clock out, get back in the car, drive around the block.
Vira: 40:25
Give them their very own pair of sweatpants. Just like to give them a headset. Sweatpants. That’s how I roll. You know, ring light the top sweatpants, or like yoga pants at the bottom. That’s how we roll. That’s how we roll here. And I’m sure I’m not the only one. Okay, I’m sure. No, I’m sure you’re not.
Dawnna: 40:48
I’m in a three piece suit right now. 100% true story.
Vira: 40:51
No, I’m not. Of course you are. Are. Of course you are. Yes.
Dawnna: 40:55
High heels, everything now.
